There’s no doubt that dating as a famous actor has its difficulties. Between packed filming schedules and international travel – not to mention press scrutiny – spending quality time with a partner is no easy feat. Add to that being based on either side of the Atlantic, plus the logistical nightmare of a global pandemic, and the picture becomes even more complicated. Yet new partners Phoebe Dynevor and Pete Davidson are making a go of it nonetheless.
The 25-year-old English actress, who shot to superstardom for her starring role in the Netflix smash-hit Bridgerton, was first linked to the 27-year-old American comedian, actor and writer earlier this year. While it may not be quite the kind of courtship Phoebe brought to life in her role as Daphne Bridgerton, the couple certainly seem smitten with each other – even persisting with the relationship despite not being able to be together in person at the moment.
The two bright young talents were spotted out and about together in the UK in March, with one eyewitness – local teenager Tilly Wag – telling Page Six that the couple were ‘holding hands and hugging each other’ in Caverswall, Staffordshire. She added: ‘It looked like they were in a relationship and they seemed happy together… They walked past our house and I recognised him immediately… I hadn’t seen anything written about Pete being in a relationship with Phoebe, but once I saw them together I thought, “Maybe they are?”.’
Dynevor is then thought to have flown to see Davidson in New York, where he lives and works, in February. A source told Us Weekly this week: ‘Pete and Phoebe are still going strong despite not being able to physically spend time together… They keep in touch over text and FaceTime. Right now, they’re just focused on work… They’re not looking to rush things.”
The source added that Davidson is ‘hoping to visit her for her upcoming birthday’ on 17 April, but commented that the couple are ‘seeing where their relationship goes’ and ‘trying to make long distance work.’ Opening up about what drew Dynevor to Davidson, the individual emphasised the comedian’s sense of humour, noting: ‘They’re happy with each other… He makes her laugh. Pete is a good guy and definitely a charmer. He’s easy-going and fun to be around.’
Meanwhile an ‘insider’ told Page Six that the couple are ‘not too serious’ on account of their respective professional commitments. Davidson, who is a Saturday Night Live cast member, needs to be based in New York for filming the show, while Dynevor will be primarily in England ‘for practically the rest of the year’ while filming Bridgerton Season 2. The source added, however: ‘Still, Pete must like her if he’s flying off to quaint little English villages to hang out with her on set’. Another individual told the celebrity news outlet back in January that Davidson tends to get ‘very intense’ when it comes to his girlfriends.
The comedian, who has appeared in films such as The King of Staten Island and Set It Up, has previously been linked to a number of high-profile women. He was formerly engaged to singer Ariana Grande in 2018, as well as having dated actress Kate Beckinsale and model Kaia Gerber.
Dynevor’s on-screen chemistry with her Bridgerton co-star Regé-Jean Page sparked many a rumour, but the actors always stressed that their real-life relationship was merely platonic. She told You magazine earlier this year: ‘I’d love to say there was really something between us, but no, it has always been strictly professional… There was so much pressure on us to get it right that it was all about the work. We have a really professional working relationship. I’m glad for that, actually. It would be very complicated if it went further.’
Us Weekly reportedly did not receive a response when it contacted Davidson and Dynevor’s representatives for comment.
