Since they were students at Ludgrove School in Berkshire, Thomas Van Straubenzee and his brother Charlie have known Prince William and Prince Harry. Charlie delivered a speech during William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011, while both brothers served as ushers at Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle in May 2018. In addition, Prince Harry served as best man during Charlie’s marriage to Daisy Jenks in August 2018.
William and Kate acted as matchmakers by introducing Thomas to Lucy, a teacher at Thomas’s Clapham, a Battersea school that Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended before the family moved to Berkshire.
It was Van Straubenzee’s second marriage; he had previously wed Lady Melissa “Missy” Percy at St. Michael’s Church in Alnwick in 2013, in a ceremony known as “the Royal Wedding of the North.” Three years later, in 2016, they divorced.
Only a small number of friends and family members attended the July 2020 wedding of Thomas and Lucy, a Knight Frank estate agent. Their original wedding date was planned to be April, amid the heights of the pandemic in Europe, meaning that Princess Charlotte’s leading role as a flower girl never took place.
